Yaaay! *applauds* Good for you. What book was it?

Congrats, lyr! Yeah, what book?
Okay, here are some of my most special-est (pardon my wordage) favorites that I think you loverly people might enjoy:
'Watership Down' by Richard Adams - in brief: an epic rabbit adventure - expansion: Hazel, a steady-going rabbit, is pulled from his quiet life and thrust into leadership when his brother, Fiver, has a vision of their warren being destroyed. Together with a motley crew of outsiders, they strike out on their own... and then things get complicated. - my thoughts: just about my favorite book; like Robin Hood and Lord of the Rings and Wind in the Willows rolled into one, only... not. Vague enough? - my favorite character: Hazel. Any steady-going hero in any other book I’ve read gets dubbed ‘a Hazel’. He is also the inspiration for Dusan, in that respect. - if you like it, try: re-reading it!
'Beauty' by Robin McKinley - in brief: a re-telling of Beauty and the Beast - expansion: Beauty is the essense of an ordinary young woman, who loves her books, possesses a wry sense of humor, and has the grace to be mildly embarrassed about her childhood nickname, which no longer describes her plain appearance. Still, what matters appearance when you're dealing with curses and enchantments and a large Beast? - my thoughts: Best example of 'First Person Narrative' I've ever read. - my favorite character: either Beauty, the Beast, or Gervain. - if you like it, try: ‘Wildwood Dancing’ by Juliette Marillier, or ‘Spindle’s End’ by Robin McKinley
'Icarus Hunt' by Timothy Zahn - in brief: sci-fi suspense/mystery - expansion: Jordan McKell is a small-time cargo runner who is asked to captain a ship, the Icarus, across the Orion Arm and back to Earth. He is in over his head almost at once. A crew member is murdered, a ruthless organization is after the Icarus’ mysterious cargo, and Jordan’s own past is warring with his current problems to see which can kill him first. - my thoughts: Zahn can build a universe out of matchsticks and play-dough; this is perhaps his best, and most self-contained, novel. - my favorite character: Ixil. He has ferrets! - if you like it, try: ‘Conqueror’s Pride’, ‘Conqueror’s Heritage’, and ‘Conqueror’s Legacy’ by Timothy Zahn
‘Murder Must Advertise’ by Dorothy Sayers - in brief: classic British murder mystery - expansion: Lord Peter Wimsey returns, complete with upper-class affectations, humorous sallies, and razor-sharp mind. This time he goes undercover in an advertising agency to solve the potentially intentional ‘accidental death’ of a copyist. - my thoughts: Dorothy Sayers ties with G.K. Chesterton as my favorite British mystery novelist (it’s worth noting that she passes up Agatha Christie and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle on that list), and this is a most excellent introduction to Wimsey. - my favorite character: Wimsey, naturally! - if you like it, try: any other Wimsey books; my favorites: ‘Strong Poison’, ‘Have His Carcass’, ‘Gaudy Night’, and ‘Busman’s Honeymoon’ by Dorothy Sayers '
